A note from the founder:

I'm Carolyn O'Brien, M.Ed., founder of B.Lit Studio™ and creator of the Less is More Literacy™ Method.

With 20 years in the classroom, and as a literacy coordinator and interventionist in New York City, I run a data-driven assessment-to-instruction system that serves hundreds of students in grades K through 6. I train teachers, guide parents, and vet outside providers against the same high bar I hold myself to. I've received research grants in literacy, biliteracy, and learning science, and I run a private practice for new and struggling readers.

Every year, families ask me the same questions. Is my child on track? What should I do at home? Where do I find a tutor I can trust? Simple questions deserve simple answers. But even families doing everything right often depend on schools, programs, and tutors that aren't grounded in science. In 2023, only 25% of teacher prep programs adequately taught the science of reading. Today it's still only about half. Even some popular "science of reading" advice from teachers, specialists, and influencers is outdated or debunked.

I'm trained in Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and more. Each has value, but I've seen them fall short on accessibility and efficiency. As a mom, teacher, and literacy leader, I knew something better had to exist, so I built it. Through trial and error grounded in science and data, I codified what actually works.

That's the Less is More Literacy™ Method: current literacy and learning science, refined through years of real results, including with my own kids.

Students who start below benchmark are often decoding and spelling within a few sessions. Groups well below benchmark on nationally normed measures reach benchmark within months.
