At B.Lit, we believe less is more.

Every element of the B.Lit method is intentional, grounded in reading science, and designed for real results. Our dry-erase workbook system transforms early literacy instruction into focused, high-impact practice — simple enough for any parent or educator to deliver, powerful enough to move the needle fast. No clutter. Just what works.

Less is More Literacy™ isn't just a motto. It's our method.

Simplified instruction. Powerful results.

A note from our founder:

I'm Carolyn O'Brien, M.Ed, founder of B.Lit Studio™ and creator of the Less is More Literacy™ Method.

With over 18 years in the classroom, and now as literacy coordinator at a private school in New York City, I run a high-performing literacy ecosystem for nearly 600 K-6 students, grounded in science and research, driven by real-time assessment data and progress monitoring. I train and coach teachers, guide parents, and vet outside providers against the same high bar I hold in my own practice. Along the way, I've been awarded research grants in literacy, biliteracy, and learning science. I also run a private practice supporting new and struggling readers one-on-one.

In that time, I've heard the same questions from hundreds of families. Is my child on track? What should I be doing at home? Where do I find a specialist or tutor I can trust? These are simple questions and the answers should be too. But even families doing everything right often rely on schools and tutors that aren't grounded in science or results. As recently as 2023, only 25% of teacher prep programs were grounded in the science of reading, and even now, only about half are. Some popular "science of reading" advice, even from specialists and neuropsychologists, is outdated and has been debunked by research. It holds back the kids who need help most and slows down the ones ready to fly.

I'm trained in many popular approaches, including Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, and other speech-to-print methods. Each brought something valuable, but I've also seen firsthand how popular approaches and programs can fall short, lacking the accessibility or efficacy that readers, from those struggling to advanced, actually need. I had no business experience, but as a mom, teacher, and interventionist I knew B.Lit had to exist. Through trial and error grounded in science and data, I codified what actually worked.

That became the Less is More Literacy™ Method: the best of current literacy and learning science combined with 18 years of real results, including with my own children. Our dry-erase workbook system turns early literacy into focused, high-impact practice that's simple enough for any parent, teacher, or tutor to deliver and powerful enough to move the needle fast.

The results speak for themselves. Students who start below benchmark are often decoding and spelling within a few sessions, and groups typically move from 35% to 90% at or above benchmark within months. B.Lit exists to get kids reading and writing better and faster than the status quo.

Knowledge of reading and learning science, paired with tools that make evidence-based practice easy to deliver and progress easy to track: that's the recipe for literacy success. Not sure where to start? Click "Ask Carolyn" and book a 30-minute call.
